Fighting Prejudice through Education

Aug 1, 2012

inSIGHT provides the funds to continue and implement new programs for the School District of Palm Beach County.    These programs empower our students to be upstanders.  Students are provided with the tools to understand prejudice and intolerance and to deal with situations as they arise.  inSIGHT is our major funder and we have enormous appreciation for what this organization does for our students.  In teaching the lessons of the Holocaust, inSIGHT is the catalyst for teaching our students to keep alive their own humanity.  inSIGHT and the School District of Palm Beach County Holocaust Studies department meet on a regular basis to discuss the needs of our students.  We carefully examine project ideas so that our students will get the maximum benefit of learning from the lessons of the Holocaust.  Some of the programs include puppet shows for the elementary students, "Living Voices" for middle school, and Student Awareness Days for high school students.  This year, students will travel to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum to expand their knowledge and act on what they have learned.  Students in all grades will have the opportunity to make "Holocaust quilts."  Teachers also have the opportunity to submit grants for their classrooms.  Ten teachers will  have the opportunity to visit the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum to expand their teaching strategies.  There are other projects being considered and students are always the benefactors.
